New York: Become A Notary: New York Notaries are commissioned by the Secretary of State for a 4-year term. An application fee and written exam fee are required.
New York Requirements:
- You must have taken and passed the notary public examination unless your are a New York State Attorney or clerk of the Unified Court System
- You must at least 18 years old
- You must be a citizen or permanent resident alien of the U.S. and either a resident of New York or have an office or place of business in New York
