Spring is here and it’s time to get a fresh start on your notary business. There’s no sugar coating the state of the economy, especially the real estate sector, but hope is still alive for the reminder of 2010. For Notary Signing Agents, some bright signs around the country: Although existing-home sales nationally dropped slightly by 0.6 percent in February 2010 compared to January, the number of sales was still 7 percent higher than February of last year. Lawrence Yun, the chief economist for the National Association of Realtors blamed the wild winter storms in February for postponing some closings and preventing buyers from getting out to shop which could affect sales over the new few months. Describing the recovery as fragile, Yun still had this positive comment about home sales saying they “have been higher than year-ago levels for eight straight months and home prices are much more stable compared to the past few years.” So, it’s time to get organized and start planning for business. Get back to the basics that made you successful during the normal market before the buying frenzy took over.

Updates to the Signing Company Directory
The Signing Company Directory has been updated and everyone listed should be current. Quite a few companies have disappeared in the last year, but I also added five signing services companies where you can sign up for free and hopefully receive some new business. Check out the directory and make sure you’ve been added to the database of every company that allows you to sign up.
Are You Linkedin?
Have you posted your profile on Linkedin yet? This is a great place to promote your notary services and network with other notaries as well as those in title, escrow, lending and settlement services. When you have your profile set up, I would be proud to be connected to you: Select Add Connections and invite me to connect by typing in this address – email@example.com – in the Enter Email Addresses box. Do a search for notary groups and sign up with the ones that interest you. You can also search for other fields and join those groups, too. If you have a second stream of income, I suggest you start a different profile for that interest. You’ll probably find other people on my profile that you want “linkedin” with your profile, so look around and have fun!
